Russell Preserve is DeKalb County's largest and perhaps most popular forest preserve. It has year 'round activities including hiking, fishing, tent camping, canoeing, shelters for picnics, x-country skiing and sledding. Deep inside Russell Forest Preserve is the Natural Resource Education Center. This is the only nature center in DeKalb County and is situated on the scenic Kishwaukee River. To demonstrate the concepts in a natural environment, the Center operates a 3,000 square foot facility. It is equipped with a large classroom, a workshop, a laboratory and observation windows looking over bird and mammal feeding areas.
